Mumbai: Advancing its investigation into the entertainment industry, the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) on Saturday searched the homes of comedienne Bharati Singh and her husband Harsh Limbachiya, official sources revealed.
The NCB teams arrived at their premises in Andheri, Lokhandwala Complex and Versova areas and were conducting search operations, after which the anti-drug agency recovered a “small quantity of cannabis.” Both Bharti Singh and her husband have been taken by the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) for questioning.
The most recent action is part for the ongoing investigations concerning Bollywood-drugs mafia nexus, which the NCB is attempting to unravel since the previous three months or so – following the death of entertainer Sushant Singh Rajput when his body was recovered on June 14 from his Bandra home.
Visuals from outside the apartment building in which they live displayed Mr Limbachiyaa being driven away in a white NCB van while Ms Singh followed in a red Mercedes.
As indicated by an NCB official quoted by news office PTI, Ms Singh’s name surfaced during questioning of a drug peddler and a search of her house recovered a “small quantity of cannabis”.
The agency likewise conducted searches at two other areas in Mumbai, the official added.
Prior this month entertainer Arjun Rampal’s house was searched, and both he and his girlfriend, Gabriella Demetriades, were brought for questioning.
Ms Demetriades was questioned over two days (for about 12 hours) while Mr Rampal was questioned for six hours in the previous week. As he was leaving the agency’s office in south Mumbai, he explained that the substances discovered by the NCB at his home were part for a prescription.
He said, “I am fully cooperating with the investigation. I have nothing to do with drugs. The medicine found at my residence was prescribed. The prescription has been found and handed over.”
Since September till date, the NCB has apprehended more than 20 individuals, including Bollywood entertainer and Sushant’s live-in partner Rhea Chakraborty, presently out on bail, her sibling Showik and other film industry related people, drug financiers, peddlers or suppliers.
