Engineering fees at several private colleges go up in Telangana

Several private engineering colleges across the state have raised the course fees for students seeking engineering education.

As part of its fee fixing process for the unaided engineering colleges in Telangana, the Telangana Admission and Fee Regulatory Committee (TARC) has set the CBIT’s annual fee at Rs.1.73 lakh, which is the highest fee of any engineering college in the state. Another college, MGIT, received a fee fixation of Rs.1.60 lakh per year.

On Wednesday, the TAFRC concluded the fee fixing process for 175 engineering colleges. From the academic year 2022-23, the new fee structure will apply for the next three-year block period. 2019 was the last time fees were revised.

A TARFC official said the management of CBIT had requested more than Rs.2 lakh per annum as the fee, but the fee was set at Rs.1.73 lakh per annum based on a number of factors.

The TAFRC fixed a minimum fee of Rs.45,000 per annum for engineering colleges, but some engineering colleges, especially those located in rural areas, requested a fee of Rs.35,000, citing the inability of students to pay more for engineering education.

In accordance with new AICTE regulations, the minimum fee will be Rs.75,000 per year. As per the AICTE regulations, only a few colleges have implemented the 7th pay revision scales for their staff. As a result, the minimum was set at Rs.45,000 per year. The committee meeting is scheduled for next week, after which the fee details will be sent to the government for the necessary orders to be issued, the official said.

Not only will the increased engineering fee burden students and parents, but it will also burden the State government exchequers, as the fee reimbursement scheme reimburses the entire college fee for students who obtain a rank of less than 10,000 in the TS EAMCET. Students who score more than 10,000 in the TS EAMCET will be charged a minimum fee, with the remaining amount being borne by the students.
