GHMC expected to finish road repairs by June 1

With monsoon just around the corner, the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has asked for all road restoration works to be completed by June 1.

Until the end of October, the civic has also banned road cuttings on 500 km or more of main roads under the Comprehensive Road Maintenance Programme (CRMP).

All road cutting departments have received the instructions for digging up roads and pavements for laying underground cables, laying power lines, laying water and sewage pipelines, and laying gas pipelines.

Pre-monsoon preparations in the city have urged superintendent engineers, executive engineers, and other officials to complete trench filling with stone dust and temporary restorations as soon as possible.

Also, the civic body requested that pending further works, if any, be completed after the monsoon.

These instructions were issued by the civic body to ensure residents and commuters do not face any inconvenience during the monsoon season.

Aside from instructing the executive engineers to take action in this regard, the GHMC also warned that if these instructions are not followed, they will be held accountable, along with the agencies and departments.

Along with this, a press note from the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) reports that the Strategic Nala Development Project (SNDP) is in full swing, working to mitigate flood risk in the city during monsoon season.

Unseasonal rains have inundated low-lying areas in the past, and GHMC is working on permanent solutions. Sixty works worth Rs 954 crore were undertaken through the SNDP to keep residents of the city safe.

37 projects have been initiated under GHMC and are in various stages of development. The Corporation officials are said to have identified flood-prone areas in various municipalities and taken temporary measures to ensure safe drainage of water, according to a press release.
