HC pass strictures on Govt over Ganesh Chaturdhi problems

The Telangana High Court today passed strictures against the state government’s knee-jerk response over the problems related to the upcoming Ganesh Chaturthi festival.

It said that the State government appeared to be not interested in addressing the problems related to the festival. The High Court has reserved its orders on a petition filed by an advocate against the orders of the state government for holding the festival.

A division bench of the High Court headed by the acting Chief Justice of the State Justice MS Ramachandra Rao and Justice T. Vinod Kumar made these remarks while hearing a petition filed by an advocate by the name of Mamidi Venu Madhav urging it to ban the immersion of the Ganesh idols at Hussain Sagar lake. While responding to the petition, The HC had recently asked the state government to provide their suggestions on the Organization of the festival.

However different departments of the state government did not submit their reports on time. This has angered the HC. Referring to the submission of the reports by some departments ten minutes before the hearing of the case, The division bench has expressed its displeasure over the submission of the reports at the last minute. It is wonder if the Hyderabad police commissioner did not have time to submit his report in the case.

Responding to the observations made by the HC, the counsel for the state government said that they hand-made arrangements in 48 lakes and tanks of GHMC. He also told the HC that they were encouraging the usage of clay Ganesh idols by the people of the state capital to prevent pollution of the environment. He said that the State government had decided to give 1 lakh clay Ganesh idols free of Cost to the devotees
