High-Level Meeting at JP Nadda’s House over Farmers Protest

New Delhi: Because of the farmers protest picking up momentum, the Centre on Tuesday got in the huddle as the top Ministers of the Narendra Modi government, including Home Minister Amit Shah held discussions at the home of BJP national President J.P. Nadda.

Other than Shah, the high-level meeting at Nadda’s home is being attended by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar.

Addressing the media ahead of the high-level meeting, Tomar stated: “Farmer leaders have been invited for discussions today at 3 p.m. The government is always ready to talk with farmers and listen to their demands.”

Throughout the meeting, the ministers are likely to talk about the demands of the farmers.

The farmers are protesting at Delhi’s Singhu, Ghazipur and Tikri borders on Delhi-Chandigarh, Delhi-Uttar Pradesh and Delhi-Haryana routes.

The farmers are demanding that the three agricultural laws passed by the parliament to be withdrawn.

The vital meeting comes at a time the farmers have made it totally certain that all they need is unconditional dialogue started by the Centre or else they will hinder obstruct all of the five entry points to Delhi.

The current negotiations had broken down after the farmers rejected the Centre’s proposal for talks over its condition to move farmers to the Burari Park in New Delhi. They said that the Centre’s proposal to move in Burari Park implies putting them to jail.

Farmers have arrived at Delhi for a decisive fight and will proceed with their agitation against the new farm laws, their leaders state, even as Prime Minister Narendra Modi keeps on defending the legislation and accuse the Opposition of pulling tricks on farmers again through misinformation.

In the interim, the opposition parties have increased the pressure, asking the Centre to respect the democratic struggle of the farmers and repeal the laws.
