Hyderabad Braces for Heavy Rainfall as More Gates of Himayatsagar Reservoir Opened

Two more gates of the Himayatsagar reservoir have opened as a result of the heavy rainfall in Hyderabad. This decision follows the Friday opening of two gates to release excess water downstream. As a precaution, residents in the Musi River catchment area have been issued a warning.

The two gates of the Himayatsagar were opened, discharging 700 cusecs (cubic feet per second) of water into the Musi River. However, with the continued rains, two further gates are scheduled to be opened to moderate the reservoir’s rising water levels.

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) Hyderabad has forecast moderate to heavy rainfall in all six zones of the city until July 24, including Charminar, Khairatabad, Kukatpally, LB Nagar, Secunderabad, and Serilingampally.

The Musi River in Musarambagh is flowing at full capacity after the gates were opened due to the heavy rainfall. The authorities are closely monitoring the water levels and taking the required precautions to avoid future floods and protect the citizens of the catchment areas.
