In light of the continuous heavy to extremely heavy rains in Hyderabad and adjoining Telangana districts, Chief Minister K. Chandrashekhar Rao has declared a holiday for all educational institutions in the state. This decision was made in response to a forecast of heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, and lightning for Friday, July 28, 2023 from the India Meteorological Department (IMD) in Hyderabad.
According to the predictions of the IMD Hyderabad, a red alert has been issued for the state, signifying the possibility of heavy to extremely heavy rainfall in various districts of Telangana. The prediction for Hyderabad suggests moderate to heavy rainfall with isolated severe bursts throughout the day.
The ongoing heavy rain in Hyderabad has caused waterlogging and traffic concerns in numerous localities, particularly in low-lying neighborhoods. Two floodgates of Himayat Sagar and two floodgates of Osman Sagar were lifted to allow excess water into the Musi River in order to manage water levels and prevent flooding.
The state government had already declared holidays for Wednesday and Thursday due to the current weather conditions and the prediction for additional rains. With the holiday being extended till Friday, all educational institutions, including schools and universities, would stay closed throughout this time.
The decision by the government to announce holidays for educational institutions is intended to guarantee the safety of students, teachers, and staff in the face of heavy rain and potential risks linked with the weather conditions. The authorities are closely watching the situation and taking the appropriate steps to meet any issues brought on by the region’s heavy rainfall.
