Hyderabad: Gandhi Hospital to receive developmental works worth Rs 100 crore

In an effort to improve the quality of services and medical infrastructure at Gandhi Hospital, the Telangana government has launched an Rs. 100 crore initiative to do so.

On Sunday, Health Minister T Harish Rao inaugurated an MRI worth Rs. 13 crores and a Cath lab worth Rs. 9 crores for conducting emergency angioplasty and angiograms among heart patients as part of these initiatives. There is already a CT scan machine worth Rs 2.14 crore at Gandhi Hospital that patients can use.

The construction of a 100-bed facility for Mother and Child Health (MCH) at a cost of Rs. 55 crore will start in the coming months, according to Harish Rao. A State Transplant Centre, which will include close to eight modular high-end operation theatres with a cost of Rs 30 crore, is also expected to be ready in the coming months to ensure that organ transplantation is done in the government facilities.

“Besides the MCH and the State Transplant Centre, for the first time in any government hospital, we are setting up the Gandhi Hospital fertility clinic at a cost of Rs. 2.50 crore for needy couples who otherwise end up spending a lot of money at private IVF facilities, the Minister said.

In the past six months, the surgeons at Gandhi and OGH have performed high-end joint replacement surgeries worth Rs. 2 crores, he said. A shelter for patient attendants is also under construction worth Rs. 1 crore at Gandhi Hospital.

Over the past four months, the orthopaedic department at Gandhi Hospital has conducted 48 joint and knee replacement surgeries, while the surgeons at OGH have performed over 50 such procedures over the past six months.

Government general hospitals in Nizamabad, Karimnagar, and Siddipet have already begun performing high-end orthopaedic joint and knee replacement surgeries.
