Hyderabad Water Board officials open 3 more gates of Himayat Sagar

The Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply & Sewerage Board (HMWS&SB) officials opened three more gates of Himayat Sagar on Tuesday due to heavy rains observed in Hyderabad and surrounding areas since Monday night. At the moment, four reservoir gates are open up to one foot.

In the Himayat Sagar, only one gate was kept open up to one foot on Monday. The water level at Himayat Sagar was recorded at 1,760.90 feet, compared with 1,763.50 feet for the FTL, and 1,320 cusecs were the recorded outflow and 1,200 cusecs were the inflow.

A similar change has been made to the gates of the Osman Sagar, which were previously kept open to a height of four feet and have now been lifted to six feet. Water levels at the reservoir were recorded at 1,787.20 feet compared to 1,790 feet FTL; outflow was recorded at 2,442 cusecs compared to an inflow of 2,400 cusecs.

As the water level in Hussain Sagar has crossed the FTL, officials from the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) are monitoring it. In Hussain Sagar, the water level was 513.48 meters, compared to 513.41 meters at FTL.

CS Somesh Kumar tells officials to be on alert

With heavy rain continuing in various parts of Telangana, the state government has issued an alert to all districts.

Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao, who is currently in Delhi, has been closely monitoring the state’s heavy rainfall situation.

All District Collectors and senior officials participated in a video conference with the chief secretary.

Somesh Kumar mentioned the flow in the Musi river, which has resulted in massive inflows of water into the twin reservoirs on the outskirts of Hyderabad, Himayat Sagar, and Osman Sagar.

He directed the managing director of the Hyderabad Metro Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWS&SB) to work closely with the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) and monitor the water flow on a regular basis.
