Hyderabad: Govt doctors’ dharna on March 13 to press demands

On March 13, doctors from all government and teaching hospitals will stage a dharna at Indira Park, asking that the administration handle their difficulties and meet their requests. All major doctor and nurse associations have joined forces to form the Public Health Care Forum.

The demonstration will be attended by approximately 500 healthcare workers. Members of the Healthcare Reforms Doctors’ Association (HRDA), the Indian Medical Association (IMA), the Junior Doctors’ Association (JUDA), the Doctors’ Forum, the Contract Doctors’ Association, the Nursing Association, and the Paramedical Association will put on the event. Dr K Mahesh, President of HRDA, stated that “doctors who are engaged on a contract and outsourcing basis must be granted permanent positions.”

Many doctors are unemployed since there is no direct recruiting of the medical staff at medical colleges, hospitals, and public healthcare facilities. Furthermore, no job announcement has yet been made, despite the fact that doctors have been pleading with the government for several years.”

During the protest, doctors will make key requests such as direct recruiting, the identification of fraudulent doctors, the immediate completion of the new Osmania General Hospital building, the appointment of Medical Council members, and protection in government hospitals for the safety of doctors. The doctors’ associations have already requested authorization from the police. Meanwhile, due to the State Assembly’s ongoing budget session, there is a risk that the protest would not take place. If permission is revoked on the day of the demonstration, the doctors’ associations are prepared to go to court.

Doctors’ organisations have stated that if possible, they will attempt to infiltrate the Assembly in order to bring the demands to the attention of the administration. They stated that there is no medical staff recruiting at medical colleges, pharmacies, laboratories, or public healthcare facilities. Dr Mahesh stated that Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao has guaranteed him that a new structure will be built at the Osmania General Hospital, which sees approximately 2,000 out-patients per day. However, no work has been accepted thus far. Many patients and doctors are at risk because of the ageing hospital facility, he added. The member of the group stated that the number of phoney doctors in the state is growing as a result of mistakes made by some officials in granting licences to open clinics.

“If errors are committed in the Medical Council itself, it is understandable how sincere the government is,” doctors stated. They are requesting that security be given for the protection of doctors in government hospitals. As the number of patients increased, so did the frequency of disagreements between patients’ families and doctors. The physicians’ unions claim that superiors are aware of the challenges and problems that doctors and nurses are experiencing, but not a single issue has been rectified.
