Hyderabad: Man sentenced to 15 days in prison for abusing traffic SI

A man was sentenced to 15 days in prison by a local court for abusing a traffic sub-inspector (SI) when the latter asked him to clear pending challans.

On September 9, the traffic police stopped G. Haridas at Begumpet during a special checking conducted to check the pendency of traffic challans on vehicles.

After stopping Haridas who was riding on the motorcycle, the police found three challans imposed on the vehicle in the year 2021 and asked him to clear them up.

He instead abused the traffic police assistant sub-inspector, S Srinivas, and four other policemen, preventing them from performing their duties.

A video of the incident was recorded by the police, and a case was registered against Haridas. In addition to 15 days of imprisonment, he was fined Rs. 500 by the court.

93 jailed for drunk driving in Cyberabad

A total of 93 people were caught for drunk driving by the Cyberabad Traffic Police during the month of September and sentenced to jail for durations ranging from a day to 30 days. They were fined a total of Rs.1.2 crore.

According to the Cyberabad Traffic Police, the 93 were among 4,333 people caught for drunk driving and driving without a license between September 1 and 30, at various locations throughout the Cyberabad Police Commissionerate.

All those detained were brought before a local court, which imposed a total fine of Rs.1.2 crore on those who violated the drunken driving rule and more than Rs.8.6 lakh on those without driving licenses.

According to the police, 34 people were imprisoned for drunk driving in Gachibowli, followed by Shamshabad with 25 people, Balanagar with 14 people, Rajendranagar with 13 people, Miyapur with six, and Raidurgam with one person.

Officials said that the driving licenses of all those apprehended were being sent to the Regional Transport Authority for suspension.
