Hyderabad: Movie ‘FIR’ faces opposition from AIMIM MLAs

As per the latest reports, AIMIM MLAs met Cinematography Minister T Srinivas Yadav on Friday and submitted a representation against the film ‘FIR’.

The MLAs of the All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) presented a representation to Cinematography Minister Talasani Srinivas Yadav regarding the objectionable content in the movie poster of ‘FIR’ (movie name) and requested that he take the necessary action under Section 8 of the Telangana Cinema (Regulation) Act, 1955.

AIMIM general secretary and MLA Syed Ahmed Pasha Quadri along with MLAs Kausar Mohiuddin (Karwan) and Jaffar Hussain Meraj (Nampally) met with the Minister. They stated that the film poster for ‘FIR,’ distributed by Abhishek Pictures and produced by VV Studioz, includes the ‘Shahadah’ in Arabic.  The Shahadah (la ‘ilaha “illa -llah”, muhammadurrasûlu -llah) is an essential part of Islam and is one of its pillars.

“The makers of the film offended the sentiments of the Muslim community by including it in a promotional film poster. Such a portrayal demeans Islam and its tenets,” the representation mentioned.  They asked the government to take the necessary action under Section 8 of the Telangana Cinema (Regulation) Act of 1955.

“The action may be taken until all objectionable content in the movie poster as well as promotional material for the film is removed. This is necessary to maintain the state’s public order and harmony,” the representation noted.

FIR’ Banned in Three Countries

FIR was released in theatres worldwide on February 11. However, despite the filmmakers being excited about the film’s release, it has been banned in three countries. According to reports, FIR was denied approval by local censor boards in Malaysia, Kuwait, and Qatar. As a result, the film was banned in these three countries.

The cast and crew of the film completed production in January 2021. The film’s release was postponed because of the Covid-19 pandemic.
