Hyderabad: Northeast monsoon expected to bring rains to the city

Since the northeast monsoon, which brings heavy rains to Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and coastal Andhra Pradesh, has set in over the eastern coast, Hyderabad is expected to receive rain in the next three days.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) predicts cloudy skies across all zones of Hyderabad. Apart from that, haze or mist will prevail over the zone until November 4.

It is forecast that the minimum temperature will increase in Hyderabad over the next three days, but the maximum temperature will drop, according to the Telangana State Development Planning Society (TSDPS).

On November 5, the cold wave is expected to return to Hyderabad, even though the minimum temperature is expected to rise in the next three days.

As the city’s minimum temperature dropped to 14.9 degrees Celsius last month, it was the coldest October in a decade.

Due to the northeast monsoon, Tamil Nadu and Puducherry will receive rainfall until November 2.

Though the northeast monsoon brings the most rain to Tamil Nadu, rain is also forecast for Kerala and Karnataka.

With the southwest monsoon officially withdrawn, IMD-Hyderabad officials reported that Telangana received 46 percent more rainfall than normal between June and September 2022, compared to 39 percent more rainfall during the same period last year. The districts of Kumaram Bheem Asifabad (1,793.3 mm), Mulugu (1,759.3 mm), and Nirmal (1,599.6 mm) received the most rainfall, with an excess of more than 80%.

Telangana received 1,073.3 mm of rain, compared to the season’s average of 734 mm. While there was a 9% excess in June and a large excess of 145% in July, the rainfall in August was 20% deficient.

According to officials, an excess rainfall of 35% was recorded again in September. During the southwest monsoon season, the state capital region of Hyderabad, Rangareddy, and Medak districts recorded excess of 20%, 22%, and 29%, respectively.
