Hyderabad: Police arrest man for threatening and raping minor girl at orphanage

A man was arrested by the Neredmet police on Wednesday for threatening and raping a minor girl at an orphanage/rescue home.

Murali Kumar (30), who works in the same institution as an accountant, is accused of sexually harassing some girls on the premises for a number of days. It is alleged that he made sexual advances toward the victim, according to the police. In response to her resistance, he threatened her and allegedly raped her. In addition, he threatened her not to tell anyone about it.

In the days following the incident, four orphanage girls escaped and a missing case was filed.

Police found them near Secunderabad railway station and counseled them. The girls then revealed the details of their ordeal. Murali was arrested after the Neredmet police booked a case based on a complaint.

The girls said they fled because they couldn’t stand the accountant’s sexual harassment. Based on the girls’ statements, the police opened an investigation. More information was discovered as a result of the investigation. Murali, the main accused, appears to have a history of misbehaving with girls. He is known to have sexually harassed them and forced them to perform massages for him.

The police also took the administrator of the shelter into custody, who promised to cooperate with the officers investigating the case. Child welfare officials seized the orphanage and relocated the students to other orphanages. According to sources, the Department of Women and Child Welfare is conducting a special internal investigation into this incident.

Some of the girls from Neredmet Home were transferred to the Nimboliadda government welfare hostel. A dharna was held in front of the Hyderabad school education commissioner’s office, led by left-wing student and women’s groups. They demanded that strict measures be taken to prevent such incidents from happening again.
