Hyderabad: RTA plans to set up new test tracks

The Transport Department is looking into the possibility of establishing new test drive tracks in the city. Though there are other test drive tracks in Hyderabad’s five zones, most applicants, even those from far away places, are being sent to the Nagole test drive track to take the test.

It has been learned that Regional Transport Authority (RTA) officials are currently looking for government lands on which to build new tracks to meet the needs of the citizens.

Those applying for driving licenses (DLs) and those renewing their driving licenses must currently take the driving test on tracks in Nagole.

Those applying for test drives book slots on the transport department’s website well in advance, but in most cases, a massive rush occurs, testing applicants’ patience.

With a large number of applicants, including women and young girls, arriving to take driving tests, it is learned that officials who are under pressure to clear the rush, are completing tests within five minutes.

According to sources, the transport department intends to build four or five driving test tracks in Hyderabad, Ranga Reddy district, Medchal-Malkajgiri, and under the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC).

They are looking for vacant government lands measuring around 2 acres, which are smaller in size than those in Uppal and Nagole and could be used to build driving tracks in the coming years.

While the driving track facilities for Attapur and Ibrahimpatnam RTAs are set up in Kondapur and Manneguda, those from LB Nagar and surrounding areas may have to spend a long time traveling or in traffic to reach Manneguda.

Driving tracks are located in Uppal, Nagole, and Petbasheerabad for the Medchal-Malkajgiri RTA limits. Applicants from Medchal and the surrounding areas must travel to Petbasheerabad test track to take the driving test.

Sources have said that once transportation department officials identify government lands, relevant permissions will be sought from the government, and driving tracks will be built in 2023.
