Hyderabad: RTI query reveals SNDP phase 1 work nowhere near completion

Despite the previously stated deadline of July, the work under the Telangana government’s Strategic Nala Development Program (SNDP) in GHMC limits and nearby areas is nowhere near complete.

Right to Information (RTI) requests filed by activist Robin Zaccheus revealed that almost all of the work undertaken by the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) is still in progress.

After a series of storms and unusually heavy rainfall in October 2020, which led to heavy flooding and great amounts of infrastructure damage in the city, the SNDP was formed. As stated by the GHMC throughout the monsoon season, the SNDP works would be completed by June 2022.

According to the RTI response, Rs 17.76 crore has been spent on the ongoing work in the GHMC area, compared to an estimated Rs 122.33 crore. All ten works in the LB Nagar zone are under progress, with the exception of the Nala from Mansoorabad Chinna Cheruvu to Bandlaguda Cheruvu, which has yet to begin.

SNDP works are also said to be incomplete in other Urban Local Bodies (ULBs) like Meerpet, Badangpet, and Jalpally. The majority of the works have not incurred any expenses, which indicates little to no progress has been made.

As compared to an estimated Rs 10 crores and Rs 8.72 crores, Meerpet has spent Rs 0.95 crores on a box drain from Suma Paradise to Sita Meadows and Rs 2.01 crores on another box drain from Greenrich Avenue to Pedda Cheruvu.

As per reports, a previous RTI reply from the superintending engineer (SE) for the Secunderabad zone stated that the construction of the stormwater drain from Mohini Cheruvu to Musi River in Amberpet circle is expected to be complete by December 2023 in Nagamaiah Kunta Nala from Padma Colony to Shivanand Nagar.
