Restoration works

The Telangana special chief secretary for Municipal Administration and Urban Development, Arvind Kumar, announced that restoration works of Sardar Mahal, Mahboob Chowk, and Mir Alam Mandi will begin shortly.

The announcement also came on Twitter after Telangana State Tourism Development Corporation (TSTDC) and Deccan Heritage Academy conducted a heritage walk to mark World Heritage Day.

Quli Qutub Shah Urban Development Authority (QQSUDA) proposes to reconstruct the historic Mahboob Chowk marketplace to include dedicated areas for meat and poultry shops.

In addition to the Clock tower garden, the project will develop a road top, street lighting, benches, a garden fence, landscaping, and public restrooms.

At the meeting with MP Asaduddin Owaisi and Charminar MLA Mumtaz Khan along with stall owners in the area on Saturday, the MAUD secretary shortlisted a design for renovating Mir Alam Chowk.

Heritage activists say that the 200-year-old Mandi and its kaman (arch), which could pose a threat to the safety of vendors and visitors to the market, have been damaged. Kumar has decided to fix the structures.

As part of World Heritage Day 2022, the Hyderabad Heritage Walk covered areas of Mahboob Chowk (Murgi Chowk), Iqbal-ud-Doula Devdi, and Khilwat.
