Hyderabad to get 75 Freedom Parks as part of Independence Day celebrations

Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has identified 75 open spaces in different parts of the city for development as ‘Freedom Parks’ in commemoration of 75 years of independence.

Swatantra Bharata Vajrotsava Dwi Saptaham will be celebrated for two weeks, and the Chief Minister, K Chandrashekhar Rao has instructed officials to organize several events.

A plan has been developed by the GHMC to develop Freedom Parks, which includes planting saplings at identified locations in multiples of 75 i.e. 75, 750 on August 10. Saplings will be planted the same day to begin the development of these Freedom Parks.

Aside from the beautification works that will be carried out to illustrate 75 years of independence, these lung spaces will have the amenities of existing tree parks, such as benches, walkways, entrance plazas, etc.

According to a GHMC official, some parks will paint tree trunks, benches, walls, and other concrete structures in tricolor, and some parks will grow 75 varieties of trees. According to the official, the civic body will also install selfie points in tricolor and beautify the parks that commemorate 75 years of independence.

GHMC is planning to create exclusive theme-based welcome boards for all 75 Freedom Park sites that have been identified and an action plan in place to develop them.

Besides the plantation drives at these theme parks on August 10, 75 saplings will also be planted in schools across the city.

In coordination with elected representatives and resident welfare associations, saplings will also be planted in different parts of the city, besides schools and the sites identified for Freedom Parks.

In a grand manner, KCR encouraged the people of the State to participate in the celebrations with patriotic fervor and gaiety. In order to involve people of all classes and creeds, the government will distribute national flags to each of the 1.2 crore households in the state on August 15. Local bodies will begin distributing flags on August 9.
