Hyderabad: Two people arrested for illegally storing chemicals

The Hyderabad Commissioner’s Task Force (south) team caught two people illegally storing chemicals on Saturday and seized property worth Rs 40 lakh.

S Raghavendra, Task Force Inspector, said that based on a tip-off, the team and Musheerabad police raided a godown at Bakaram and seized about 500 barrels of calcium carbide chemical which were being stored illegally without a valid license and permission.

Joshua Caleb (35) and Isaac Clinton (32) obtained the chemical illegally in Gujarat and Rajasthan and stored it here.

Calcium carbide forms highly flammable and explosive acetylene gas when exposed to water or moisture. An explosion and fire result from this. Police reported that the chemical may cause immediate or short-term health effects, including rashes, redness and a burning sensation on the skin, as well as damage to the eyes over time.
