Hyderabad woman accuses loan app executives of harassment

The Narsingi police were approached by a woman who was upset with the harassment she allegedly received from an online instant loan app management.

As per the reports, the complainant had borrowed Rs.18,000 from a loan application and had repaid it with interest. She was recently notified by the loan app executives that the repayment status was not updated at the company’s end.

Besides harassing her to repay the amount, they threatened to share her morphed explicit photos with her family and friends.

Although she paid nearly Rs.2 lakh, they demanded more. Upon refusal from the victim, they shared her morphed photos with her family members. An investigation is being conducted by the Narsingi police.

Telangana police warn about loan app fraud

In light of recent reports of loan app fraud in Telangana, the police urged the public to be cautious when using such apps.

A police awareness message warned, “Many apps offer loans over the phone. People in need will accept these loans by allowing them access to their contacts. The company will charge a high-interest rate, and if someone fails to repay or delays, they harass them by contacting/messaging all of their contacts.”

Moreover, the police have provided names of over 100 fake loan apps that are available on Google Play.

In recent months, the Telangana police have booked several companies involved in illegal loan app business operations and arrested many people who played a role in these businesses. In Telangana, some people have committed suicide after being allegedly victimized by executives of loan app companies.

The lull following the arrests in some of the cases booked here was broken by the resurfacing of a few loan applications, and the police registered a few more cases following complaints from the victims.
