Hyderabad woman loses 91 lakh rupees in a crypto fraud

A woman belonging to Jubilee Hills lost Rs 91 lakh to cyber fraudsters who hacked and looted her cryptocurrency account.

According to the police, the woman, who was interested in digital trading, opened an account with ‘Binance,’ a cryptocurrency exchange, and invested more than Rs 91 lakh.

“A few days ago, she discovered that someone had hacked into her account and transferred cryptocurrency worth Rs 91 lakh. A case was booked based on a complaint, and an investigation is ongoing,” Hyderabad Cybercrime police officials said, adding that the hacking could have been carried out by someone who was familiar with her account balance.

In a different case, a man from the city was duped out of approximately Rs 30 lakh by fraudsters who enticed him into investing in the cryptocurrency business. The victim received a phone message from someone asking him to invest in a business and to transfer money to a bank account.

Police said: Believing the person, the victim transferred a small amount into a wallet on several occasions. When he was unable to withdraw his profits, he became suspicious and filed a complaint. A case was filed regarding the complaint.

Recently, a Secunderabad man lost Rs 73 lakh after being approached on social media by conmen who lured him to invest in cryptocurrency.

Srinivas, a resident of Kavadiguda, has been identified as the victim by the police. Srinivas made his initial investment of 30 lakh through a mobile app after being promised high returns. Within a few days of investing, his Rs 30 lakh had grown to Rs 2.4 crore, according to the app. However, the victim failed to withdraw the funds.

After failing to withdraw his profits, he contacted the cyber fraudsters who persuaded him to invest more in order to be eligible to withdraw the funds.

The victim ended up investing 73 lakh in about two weeks. He approached us after the accused had stopped communicating with him, KVM Prasad, ACP, cybercrime, stated.

In recent years, the number of cryptocurrency fraud cases has multiplied across the country.
