Inter results: ‘Poor’ performance leads to two students’ deaths

Two students allegedly committed suicide after the Intermediate results were released here on Tuesday.

An MPC student in Chintalbasti, who passed the exams but was unhappy with his results, was found hanging from a fan. A case was opened by the Saifabad police, and the body was sent for autopsy.

Police said the disheartened intermediate MPC student’s actions shocked his family, who took him to nearby Mahaveer Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Another student allegedly jumped from a building in Mailardevpally after failing the intermediate examinations. The incident occurred around 12.30 p.m. in Ganesh Nagar.

The police said, however, that the victim’s family denied allegations that the death was related to the results and shifted the body to their native place.

The education minister urges students not to lose hope

On Tuesday, Telangana education minister Sabitha Indira Reddy urged students not to lose hope because of poor performance in the intermediate exams.

It was assured by the minister that the Telangana State Board of Intermediate Education (TSBIE) would conduct the supplementary exams as soon as possible. Sabitha also encouraged parents to support their children during these difficult times.

Two intermediate students from the city committed suicide on Tuesday over low marks, according to reports.

As a result of student suicides following the announcement of the results, the minister said that supplementary exams would help students improve their grades. Teachers should instill confidence in their students, Sabitha urged.

On Wednesday, TPCC chief Revanth Reddy demanded a waiver of the revaluation and supplementary examination fees.

He took to Twitter and wrote: It’s heart-wrenching to see intermediate students resort to extreme measures after results. I appeal to them to understand the value of life & not take any drastic steps. I demand @TelanganaCMO to waiver the fee for revaluation & supplementary examination. @SabithaindraTRS.
