Jalpally Municipality soon to wrap completely under CCTV surveillance

As is the custom, the council meeting of Jalpally Municipality held last week in the presence of Minister for Education P.Sabitha Indra Reddy but with an unusual development that sends a message to people who might not happy with the way the authorities have acted tough against encroachments on lands, lakes and lofty rock hills besides illegal dumping of garbage.

While listing approvals of several measures addressing multiple issues during the meet, the allocation of Rs.50 Lakhs for setting up of CCTV cameras at various strategic locations comes as a surprise that aimed to bring the entire area under complete police and municipality surveillance.

Coincidently the move to fix CCTV cameras came soon after the new Commissioner of Police M.Stephen Ravendra took charge as the top cop of the Cyberabad Commissionerate that also includes Jalpally area.

According to sources, representations were made to the Municipality and the Minister for Education Sabitha Indra Reddy twice by Pahadi Shareef and Balapur Police for the setting up of CCTV cameras at all the strategic locations as incidents of crime and garbage dumping in night hours went up in recent days.

In addition to this, frequent reports of encroachments on swats of open government lands, water bodies, cutting of lofty rock hills besides unhygienic conditions due to dumping heaps of garbage on open areas make this municipality a most contentious and argued over area in entire Rangareddy district.

Spread over an area of 30 square kilometers with a mixed population of around 80,374 (as per 2011 census), this municipality was formed in the year 2016 merging the areas of Jallapally, Balapur, Kottapet and Pahadi Shareef. Sharing boundaries with Badangpet, Tukkuguda Chandrayangutta and Rajendranagar, this municipality was divided into 28 densely populated wards with a straining share of representation between AIMIM and the ruling TRS.

Home for nearly 23,961 families – mostly living below the poverty line, this Jalpally municipality is undisputedly known for an array of family disputes and domestic violence in almost every ward due to illiteracy, poverty and penury among the dwellers.

This awful state of affairs is said to have harboring the criminal syndicates and ratcheting up crime rate in the area infamous for unprotected water bodies, disputes on lands and disappearing rock hills besides illegal dumping of garbage on open places.

It is against this background, he said, the police and the municipal authorities have decided to bring the entire municipality under the scanner to check the ever increasing crime rate and the garbage dumping menace.

As per conservative estimation, the sources added that, nearly 300 to 400 locations will be identified under the municipality limits by the police and the municipal authorities to fix the cameras. “The move will help curtailed issues like encroachments, illegal dumping of garbage and other crimes as the entire area will come under the police and municipality surveillance once the area comes under police scanner,” he informed
