KTR slams Modi for announcing freebies to Karnataka ahead of assembly elections

Municipal Administration and Urban Development Minister KT Rama Rao slammed Prime Minister Narendra Modi for announcing freebies to Karnataka ahead of the assembly elections there.

In response to the BJP’s Karnataka election manifesto, the Minister questioned whether Modi was Prime Minister only for Karnataka or for the entire country. Why would the BJP not provide free gas cylinders and milk to people in other states, he wondered, also criticizing the BJP’s preferential treatment of industrialist Adani.

While the transfer of the Jaipur International Airport to the Adani Group was exempt from GST, he stated that the common man, however, was being slapped with GST even on milk, curd and other milk-based products.

Rama Rao referred to this as the Modi government’s “double standards,” saying that Modi spoke out against freebies while doing the same in Karnataka. People would teach Modi a lesson by defeating him in the elections, he said.

On Tuesday, after inspecting damaged crops in paddy fields and paddy procurement centers in the district, the Minister stated that crop production was high due to the availability of adequate water, power, and other facilities. However, recent hailstorms have destroyed farmers’ hopes. He stated that the government led by the BRS, also known as the Bharat Rythu Samithi, would provide all necessary assistance to farmers.

On paddy procurement, Rama Rao said that so far 7.5 lakh tons of paddy have been procured so far this season, compared to 4 lakh tons procured in the corresponding season last year. He stated that the crop damage assessment was completed and that compensation would be distributed to affected farmers very soon.
