LinkedIn Reportedly Suffers Data Leak of 500 MM Profiles After Facebook

People were still recovering from the latest Facebook data leak of 533 million users which also included 6.1 million Indians. Now LinkedIn is also facing a massive data leak.

LinkedIn Data Leak Put On Sale Online

As per the latest reports, data of 500 million profiles has been put on sale on a popular hacker forum. As a sample of data, 2 million profiles have already been leaked by the hackers.

Cybernews reported that the four leaked files contains sensitive information of the 500 million profiles. It includes full names, phone numbers, workplace information, email addresses and a lot more.

The leaked data which has been put on sale also includes links to LinkedIn profiles and other social media accounts. The report also mentions that the user can view some of the details for $2 on hacker forum. And the 500 million user database will reportedly be auctioned for at least 4 digit sum. The payment may be accepted in Bitcoins.

LinkedIn Releases Statement Post Data Leak

After the leak, LinkedIn released a statement. They said that an investigation has already been launched over the alleged data leak that has posteddflr sale. They said that the numbers of the profiles is being shown more than the real numbers.

The company said that the profiles that were open to public viewing is what is made available on the hacker forum. However, this does not count as data leak and no information of the private members has been leaked.

LinkedIn further claimed that when someone seeks data that has been put under privacy, they hold them accountable for the information.

This comes after Facebook went through another massive data leak recently. However, Facebook said that the data leaked is the old one which was taken in 2019. And they had fixed the issue in August 2019 itself.
