Liquor scam case: More than 140 mobile phones destroyed to eliminate evidence

According to the Enforcement Directorate and the CBI investigating the liquor scam, more than 140 mobile phones of political leaders, businessmen, and officials involved in the scam were destroyed to eliminate digital evidence.

It is not difficult to extract data from a phone, however, ED officials claim that many of the phones have been destroyed since the intensification of investigations and arrests in the liquor scam, but they are still able to access the details. It is reported that Sarath Chandra Reddy is the regional supervisor for the French wine company besides Pernod Richard.

The ED officials disclosed during the remand attempt that the accused were destroying their phones in order to destroy call records and messages between each other. Sources say that more than 100 crore rupees worth of transactions have been uncovered for the modification and change of the Delhi Liquor Policy. A preliminary investigation suggests that the liquor scam is not a small one, but it is spread across many states.

ED said it is concerning that those involved in the case are trying to destroy the evidence by destroying their phones after the arrest of Sarath Chandra Reddy, the promoter of Aurobindo Pharma, on Friday. However, the agencies have managed to recover the contents of those phones.

Due to the seriousness of the matter, the investigation into the liquor scam is being closely scrutinized by the ED. ED has said that “there has been a lot of progress in the investigation so far and now that the series of arrests has started, there is a possibility of more revelations in the coming days. After the new arrests, we will have the details about the relationship and access of the accused in the interrogation and based on that action will be taken.”
