Constant fights between a mother and her daughter over the latter’s studies led to the alleged murder of the woman. According to the police, a 15-year-old minor girl killed her mother with a karate belt following one such argument.
The incident took place in Airoli area of Navi Mumbai on July 30th and was brought light recently. On initial questioning, the girl attempted to cover the crime as an accident.
It started on July 27th after the girl’s father scolded her for playing on the mobile phone instead of studying. The raged teenager left the house to go to uncle’s place situated nearby, as per an official. Though the mother brought her back to their home, the girl expressed her irritation and saturated patience of her parents’ repetitive urges and harassment to study for a medical course as she did not want to pursue it. They had also enrolled her for coaching classes to appear for the national-level medical entrance exam NEET. She had even threatened them of going to the police station to file a complaint.

Soon, the mother reached the police station with her where they received counselling from the cops.
July 30th witnessed a similar story as the woman scolded her daughter again over the same matter. The fight got physical after the mother threatened the girl of dire consequences with a knife. Fear engulfed the girl as she thought her mother would kill her. Hence, she pushed the woman that left her with a head injury from the corner of a bed. The mother got defensive and, in a semi-conscious state, tried to get hold of a karate belt lying nearby. However, the girl noticed this and quickly grabbed it herself and reportedly strangulated the woman with it.
The police said that to pass it off as a suicide, the girl acted fast and sent a WhatsApp message to her father and uncle from her mother’s phone saying, “I tried everything I quit”. She then proceeded to lock the house from inside and got out somehow to call her father. She told him that her mother wasn’t opening the door. The father told the issue to her uncle who reached their house and the men broke open the door. They found the woman lying dead with a karate belt around her neck on the bed.
However, the girl’s story did not convince the police and the body was sent for autopsy. Post mortem reports revealed that the cause of death was injury to head and strangulation, unlike what the daughter had narrated.
The police questioned the victim’s family members that gave a hint of the girl’s part in the death. Interrogations with the girl made her confess her crime and the events that led to the murder. “We took her into confidence and she narrated what happened,” the official said.
Following this, the girl was charged with murder and a case was registered under IPC 302. She is currently under detention.
