Nayee Brahmin Protests Against Free Power Allocation

The Telangana Nayee Brahmin Association, which represents Nayee Brahmin barbers, has expressed its dissatisfaction with the state government’s decision to provide free power to Muslim salon owners from Bihar and Uttar Pradesh in Telangana.

This action is similar to the allocation of 250 units of free power to Nayee Brahmins, and it has created uproar in the community. The group staged a rally at Narayanguda Square on Thursday to protest what they see as the government’s discriminatory treatment of Nayee Brahmins. During the demonstration, they burned an effigy of Chief Minister KCR to convey their displeasure.

The Nayee Brahmin group has demanded that the state government issue an order prohibiting the “corporatization” of their profession, which occurs when members from other communities start up company in Telangana. They claim that this behavior is harming their company.

“Barbers from Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, and Delhi have come to the city and set up their shops,” said P Vikas, President of Telangana Nayee Brahmin Jana Shakti. They are now moving into the districts, which will have a huge influence on our business.” According to the organization, these barbers from other groups are entitled to the same 250 units of free power as barber shops in the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) region.

They further claim that local leaders of a political party are assisting barbers from North India in setting up businesses, indirectly harming the livelihoods and finances of Nayee Brahmins in the profession.

There are approximately 30,000 shops run by the Nayee Brahmin community in Telangana, with about 10,000 within the GHMC limits. On average, three individuals work in a single shop. The community had previously protested against corporate companies entering their profession.

The association criticized the government led by the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS), alleging that it is preoccupied with appeasing individuals from other groups and not prioritizing the welfare of distressed Nayee Brahmins. They called for government intervention to halt individuals from castes outside their own from setting up barber shops.

Concerns have been raised by the recent inflow of Muslim barbers from North India, with roughly 500 hair-cutting establishments operating in various neighborhoods of Hyderabad. Clashes between local barbers and outsiders have been recorded, notably in Muslim-dominated areas of the city.

The Telangana Nayee Brahmin Jana Shakti is preparing a bike ride from Warangal to Hyderabad in the near future to call attention to their demands. This demonstration draws attention to the continuing dispute about the allocation of resources and opportunities among the region’s many groups.
