Only Hyderabad registered autos would be able to use Ola and Uber

A thousand families drive vehicles in the city of Hyderabad. Many Ola and Uber companies make money by operating registered vehicles in addition to owning cars. However, Hyderabad’s city traffic police commissioner, AV  Ranganath, made a significant judgement on auto travel in the city.

Only autos registered in Hyderabad will be authorised to turn on behalf of Ola and Uber, according to the announcement. Automobiles registered in outside the city areas are not permitted to turn around in the city, it was emphasised.

Commissioner AV Ranganath of the Hyderabad Traffic Police said that only auto rickshaws registered in Hyderabad would be allowed to use the cab aggregators Ola and Uber from now on. Automobiles registered outside of the city limits will not be permitted to operate within the municipal limits.

On Saturday, the Commissioner met with officials from the Ola and Uber taxi businesses at the city’s traffic police commissioner’s office. This was in response to a complaint from local auto-rickshaw unions that autos registered in other locations were using Ola and Uber to travel around the city.

To that aim, the Department of Transport has instructed that only vehicles registered in Greater Hyderabad and bearing licence plates ranging from TS09 to TS13 are permitted to operate within the city limits. Vehicles from the rest of the series would be prohibited from entering the city. Fines would be imposed on such vehicles operating in the city, he warned.

Meanwhile, the cab aggregators have been questioned by authorities for permitting private two-wheelers to be driven in conjunction with Ola and Uber. Representatives from the various organisations were requested to clarify under what rules or regulations they were permitted to associate with them in order to provide two-wheeler transportation services.

Officials claimed that a full study of such private two-wheelers will be done and that legal action would be taken soon. They also stated that they would shortly concentrate on reducing the number of overspeeding taxi vehicles. Officials from the Road Transport Authority, GHMC, HMDA, and R&B attended the conference.
