Punjab CM Directs Vaccinations for Families of Health Workers and Comorbid Prisoners

Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh on thursday announced that they would be launching group vaccination for families of healthcare workers in both government and private sectors from Friday.

Chief Minister Directs Co-Morbid Prisoners To Be Vaccinated Against Covid 19 

As per the latest reports, Punjab CM Amarinder Singh said that they will be using the Covid 19 vaccinations judiciously given the fact that stocks are in shortage. He also directed the health department to initiate the process of vaccinating the co-morbid prisoners in the 18-44 age group. The positivity rate for the last week in Punjab stood at 14.2 percent.

This move comes after Amarinder Singh along with his Cabinet conducted a meeting with the Health Department to kickstart the vaccination programme for the priority groups from schools and other buildings to curb the spread of the pandemic virus.

Gagandeep Kang, a special invitee to the expert medical group briefed the Cabinet and said that the data shows that the vaccine works better against the coronavirus including the mutant B.1.617 variety.

She further suggested that more extensive use of Covidshield will ensure higher efficacy with a single dose. And the second dose can be extended up to 12 weeks. She suggested that the government of India should include obesity in the list of comorbidities for the vaccination priority.

States Halt Covid Vaccination for 18-44 Years 

With the battling of the Covid 19 vaccination, Karnataka and Maharashtra have announced that they will be temporarily suspending vaccination drives for 18-44 years of age. Because of the limited availability of the Covid 19 vaccines, priority is being given to the ones who are due for the second dose.

The Serum Institute of India and Bharat Biotech have already submitted their production plan for the next four months to the Central government. The plan states that they both would be able to ramp up their production for the Covid 19 vaccine up to 10 crores and 7.8 crores (respectively) by August.
