Rural Areas Are Deprived of Covid Vaccination : Uttam Kumar Reddy

Former president of Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee and Nalgonda MP  N Uttam Kumar Reddy on Saturday alleged that the Covid vaccination rate was slow in the state, particularly in rural areas.

He said that there was a need to speed up the vaccination so that the target of vaccinating all the adults by December 31, 2021, could be achieved and the third wave of Covid could be prevented. He said that he would raise the issue in Parliament.

Uttam has participated in the general body meeting of Nalgonda Mandal Praja Parishad. Addressing the media after the meeting, he said that vaccination was going on at a slow pace in the rural areas.  He said that for example only 10 percent of the 65,000 population of Nalgonda Mandal were given two doses of vaccine so far.

“The doctors of Nalgonda Mandal have informed me that the vaccine doses were not arriving every day. Only 100 to 200 doses are given whenever the supply reaches the local hospital. With such a meager supply and slow rate of vaccination how we would be able to vaccinate all the adults by December 31, 2021?” he said.

Speaking on the troubles being faced by students of the rural areas in receiving online classes, he said that students of poor families were unable to follow online lessons due to a lack of infrastructure. He said that how a poor Dalit family would be able to provide a laptop, Ipad or smartphone to its ward.

Reddy said students in the rural areas were put to suffer due to the present online education system. He said that the Central and State governments did not take steps to provide enough infrastructure to the students of the rural areas.

He said that he would take this issue to the notice of the Centre during the current Parliament session.  Uttam said that the only solution to address this problem is to vaccinate all the students immediately and to open the schools as soon as possible.

Lamenting on no implementation of crop insurance in the state, he said it was unfortunate that the TRS government is the only one in the country that was not implementing any crop insurance scheme. He said that farmers were being abandoned when faced with heavy rains or floods or natural calamities. He said that the previous Congress governments have implemented crop insurance schemes effectively.
