Russia Begins Animal Covid 19 Vaccination Drive

In the latest update, Russia has started to vaccinate the animals against the Covid 19. The vaccine for the animals named Carnivac-Cov provides immunity against the pandemic virus for six months.

As per the reports, several regions across Russia have started to get the animals vaccinated against the Covid 19 at the veterinary clinics. Russia’s veterinary watchdog Rosselkhoznadzor confirmed the same.

The vaccine has been tested on dogs, cats, mink, foxes, and other animals and has proved to be effective against the pandemic virus. Advisor to the Head of Rosselkhoznadzor, Julia Melano said that the clinics across the country have noted an increase in the vaccination requests from breeders, pet-owners who travel often, and also from the citizens whose animals roam freely.

Foreign Companies Reported Showed Interest in Carnivac-Cov

Russia, earlier this month, announced that they had started mass production for the animal vaccines against Covid 19. Rosselkhoznadzor’s subordinate institution, the Federal Centre for Animal Health said that the first batch of 17,000 doses was already produced.

They also revealed that there is a great demand for the Carnivac-Cov within the country. Some foreign nations have also shown interest in the same. Local media revealed that the production capacity currently stood at 3 million doses per month and would hopefully increase to 5 million in the future.

Russia is also negotiating for the fast registration of the vaccine abroad, particularly in the European Union. Rosselkhoznadzor had announced that the country had registered the Carnivac-Cov vaccine.

Other nations like Argentina, South Korea, and Japan, and the European Union have shown interest in the Carnivac-Cov. However, there is currently no strong evidence if animals play a significant role in the spread of the Covid 19 disease to humans. But there have been cases where animals had tested positive for Covid 19.

Covid-19 has been a serious problem for minks, semi-aquatic mammals farmed for their fur.
