Society formed for maintaining surveillance cameras in Hyderabad

For public safety, Director-General of Police M Mahendar Reddy, announced on Friday the formation of a separate organisation – Telangana State Society for Public Safety – to oversee the maintenance of the state’s nine lakh surveillance cameras.

The decision to establish the society was made in order to address the difficulties in carrying out maintenance of the surveillance cameras deployed by the State government as well as the general public in their residential areas. Jitender, the Additional Director-General of Police (Law and Order), will lead the society.

He stated that the decision will allow the police department to continue to fix the CCTVs and that preparations had been made to establish a separate software for maintaining the cameras, which are providing key evidence to investigators in numerous high-profile cases.

Mahendar Reddy later awarded scholarships to 25 students who lost their fathers and mothers working in the department due to Covid-19. The department also founded another organization – the Telangana State Police Welfare Society – to protect the health of approximately one lakh police officers and staff.
