Special drive launched by Hyderabad Traffic Police to remove abandoned vehicles

A special drive has been launched by the Hyderabad Traffic Police to remove abandoned vehicles from the roads.

As a result, traffic cranes are removing hundreds of vehicles from the road and moving them to the yards, said Hyderabad’s Deputy Chief of Police (Traffic), AV Ranganath.

“Notices were pasted on the vehicles 15 days ago instructing the owners to remove them because they were blocking smooth traffic flow,” he said, adding that if the owners do not come forward to claim the vehicles, they will be auctioned under section 39B of the Hyderabad City Police Act.

Traffic police search for space to park seized vehicles

With an influx of worn-out vehicles seized during Vehicle Check and Drunken Drive programs, the Rajendranagar Traffic Police is searching for sufficient government land in the area to relocate their office.

Therefore, the Circle Inspector wrote a letter to the Revenue Department requesting adequate land for a new traffic police station to be built in the area.

The traffic police station in Rajendranagar, which covers an area of 2,000 square yards and is located near Aram Ghar Cross Road in Shivrampally, has been occupied entirely with seized vehicles belonging to the vehicle owners.

All the two-wheelers and passenger autos seized under various offences in Rajendranagar have taken up all the space inside the traffic police station leaving hardly any room even for petrol vehicles to enter and exit freely. As people arriving at the police station had to leave their vehicles outside the gate, the outer premises were also full of vehicles.

On March 22, the CI lettered MRO Rajendranagar asking for at least an acre of government land within his jurisdiction for the new traffic PS.

Circle Inspector Traffic Police Station, Shyam Sundar Reddy said that a large portion of the station space is being acquired for the ongoing road widening for the construction of the flyover from Zoo Park to Aram Ghar.
