Teen with chicken pox commits suicide after being told not to leave home

According to reports, a 13-year-old boy with chickenpox died of suicide in Kanchanbagh on Tuesday. He allegedly became upset after his parents asked him not to go out because he had chickenpox.

The victim, identified as Abdul Rehman, lived with his parents in Hafeez Baba Nagar, which is located within the Kanchanbagh police station’s jurisdiction. As a result of having chickenpox a few days ago, Rehman’s parents asked him not to play with other children. In spite of this, he insisted on going out and meeting his friends on the street.

“When his parents forbade him from leaving the house, he shut himself in a room on Tuesday night. He was later found hanging,” Kanchanbagh Sub-inspector Nasreen Begum said.

As soon as the family noticed it, he was rushed to the hospital, where he was declared dead.

Fear of board exams leads to teen’s suicide

In another shocking incident, T Ramya Devi, a 15-year-old student who was preparing for upcoming board examinations, committed suicide by setting herself on fire on Monday morning.

Police report that the victim, who lived in Jiyaguda of Kulsumpura, had been preparing for her board exams. Although her parents’ high expectations for her performance scared her which led to her taking this drastic step.

While undergoing treatment, Ramya told the police that she was depressed because she feared examinations.

As the victim was at home with her mother and sister, she went into the Pooja room and set herself on fire by dousing herself with kerosene. As soon as her mother and sister heard her screams, they rescued her and shifted her to Osmania Hospital.

There has been a case registered under section 174 of the CrPc (Police to enquire and report on suicides) and an investigation is underway.
