Telangana Government Allocates Rs 194.88 Crore for Minority Welfare Programs

During the second quarter of the fiscal year 2023-24, the Telangana government has released a total of Rs 194.88 crore for different minority welfare programmes. Syed Umar Jaleel, the Secretary of Minority Welfare, issued GO.RT.84, outlining the initiatives and allocating funding.

Scholarships, fee reimbursements, Chief Minister’s Overseas Scholarship Scheme, Scheme of Training Employment for Minority Candidates, bank-linked subsidy scheme, government hostels, maintenance of minority students’ hostels, minorities’ study circle, and other schemes are funded.

Here is a breakdown of how monies were allocated and disbursed for some of the schemes:

  1. Minority Employment Training Scheme: Rs 3.78 crore budgeted, Rs 94.7 lakh released, Rs 1.89 crore pending.
  2. Bank-Linked Subsidy Scheme: Rs 150 crore budgeted, Rs 37.50 crore released (in the first and second stages, respectively), and Rs 75 crore waiting.
  3. Welfare Schemes Implementation: Rs 120 crore budgeted, Rs 30 crore transferred to the Minority Finance Corporation, and Rs 60 crore outstanding.
  4. Minority Student Scholarship: Rs 70.80 crore budgeted, Rs 17.70 crore released, Rs 35.40 crore waiting.
  5. Fee Reimbursement Scheme: Rs 236 crore is planned, Rs 59 crore is released in the first quarter, and Rs 118 crore is waiting.
  6. Overseas Scholarship Scheme of the Chief Minister: Rs 118 crore budgeted, Rs 29.70 crore released in the second quarter, Rs 58.79 crore waiting.

The Telangana Waqf Board has been given Rs 68 crore for imam and muezzin honoraria, with Rs 17 crore already released in two installments and Rs 34 crore outstanding.The overall budget for the second quarter was Rs 778.90 crore, of which Rs 194.88 crore was given and Rs 389.14 crore is still pending. The Commissioner of Minority Welfare has been given authority to release the funds for the initiatives.

These welfare programmes aim to promote and uplift Telangana’s minority populations by offering numerous chances for education, skill development, and financial aid.
