Telangana: Governor Tamilisai’s remarks provoke sharp reaction from BRS

Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan’s remarks during her Republic Day address targeting the Telangana government and Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao drew criticism from BRS leaders who accused her of turning the Raj Bhavan into a political party office. Several elected officials, including Assembly Speaker Pocharam Srinivas Reddy and Council Chairman Gutha Sukhender Reddy, criticised her allegations against the government.

BRS MLC K Kavitha ‘thanked’ the Governor for “echoing the vision of Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao” in an apparent dig at the Governor.

“Choosing country’s infrastructure over Central Vista during the pandemic, is what we demanded. Choosing farmers, labourers and unemployed youth over focusing on wealth generation for a few, is exactly what we have been fighting for. Thank you for echoing the vision of Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao garu,” she tweeted.

Speaker Pocharam Srinivas Reddy advised those in constitutional positions to act responsibly rather than making baseless accusations on such an auspicious occasion as Republic Day. Those in power should act in accordance with the spirit of the Constitution, without regard for religion or caste. He advised against governing the state for the benefit of a few people, calling it unconstitutional.

Gutha Sukhender Reddy expressed regret that those in positions of power were not paying attention to Telangana’s development. In an indirect attack on the Governor for her remarks about preserving democracy in Telangana, he stated that democracy was safe in Telangana and that those criticizing the State should also shed light on the Centre’s anti-democratic policies.

K. Kavitha reacts to Republic Day speech of Telangana Governor

Telangana State Renewable Energy Development Corporation (TSREDCO) chairman Y Satish Reddy stated that the Governor’s remarks were against the spirit of the Constitution of India on the very day it went into effect. He said with her comments, Soundararajan appeared to be finding fault with construction of the Dr BR Ambedkar Telangana State Secretariat complex, the integrated district collectorate complexes, buildings for medical colleges and government offices, Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Scheme and even Yadadri temple.

Telangana State Medical Services Infrastructure Development Corporation (TSMSIDC) chairman Errolla Srinivas wanted to know if the construction of new buildings was wrong, the Governor must explain if she was opposing the construction of the Central Vista by the union government. He wondered if the construction of buildings was not part of infrastructure and nation development.
