Telangana govt releases GO 118 to end land litigations in Hyderabad

Saroornagar Indoor Stadium was awash with cheers and firecrackers on Wednesday as Minister of Municipal Administration and Urban Development (MA&UD) KT Rama Rao announced that the Telangana government released GO 118.

The State government under GO 118 has decided to regularize land in 44 colonies in different parts of the city at a nominal charge, considering the economic status of the occupants.

The Minister said the government orders provide relief to scores of families in 44 colonies in six assembly segments – LB Nagar, Medchal, Rajendra Nagar, Karwan, Nampally and Jubilee Hills. “A nominal rate of Rs 250 per square yard has been fixed to regularise, and that too to ensure the beneficiaries do not face legal challenges in the future,” he said.

People have been fighting for land regularization for a long time, and they have been presenting their cases to previous governments as well. The Minister, however, noted that K Chandrashekhar Rao’s leadership had resolved the issue.

The Minister cited the transformation of LB Nagar Chowrastha in just eight years as an example of the governance model adopted by the present government.

In addition, Rama Rao assured the MLAs that other issues raised by them would be addressed, the land would be allocated for the construction of a Gurudwara, and some left-out colonies would be regularized.

Labour and Employment Minister Ch Malla Reddy said the GO 118 marks the end of decades of land regularisation problems for many families.

Home minister Mohd Mahmood Ali described the Gujarat Model as a failure, adding that previous mistakes made by Congress and TDP governments regarding land registration are being rectified by TRS (BRS). “To do good for the people, there was no need for a ’56 Inch Ka Seena’, instead, a good heart and the will to serve are required,” he quipped.

MRDCL Chairman and LB Nagar MLA D Sudheer Reddy thanked Rama Rao for ending the hardship of several families through GO 118 and for sanctioning funds and developing the LB Nagar constituency through Strategic Road Development Plan (SRDP), Strategic Nala Development Programme (SNDP) and others.
