Telangana govt spent Rs 6,644 crore for minorities’ welfare over last eight years

Telangana ranks top in the country in terms of minority educational development thanks to a series of development and welfare programs implemented by the State government.

To ensure the welfare of minorities in Telangana, the State government has spent Rs 6,644 crore in the last eight years. The number of minorities gurukuls in Telangana was only 12 when the state was formed in 2014. 192 minority gurukuls have been established by the State government over the last eight years to provide minority children with more educational opportunities, according to officials.

Due to the government’s desire that minority girls should be ahead in education, 50 percent of the gurukuls were established exclusively for them, and these institutions have received excellent reviews.

Currently, there are 204 minority gurukuls in the State, with as many as 1.14 lakh students studying there. As part of the government’s efforts to provide quality education along with free accommodation and meals to students, the government spends Rs 1.25 lakh per student per year.

In order to address the dropout rate among minority girls after Class X, the government has upgraded 121 minority residential schools to junior colleges. Minority girls are now enrolled at 42 percent, up from 18 percent earlier.

There is a feeling of satisfaction and happiness among the minority community as a result of this growth. 54 minority gurukuls in the state are being constructed with all amenities and facilities. The Waqf Board agreed to give Hyderabad 29 college buildings after much consultation.

In Nampally, Anees-ul-Gurba Orphanage was reconstructed and is now ready for inauguration. Government officials said imams and mouzams who conduct prayers in mosques receive honoraria of Rs 5,000 per month to Rs 10,000 per month. The government celebrated major festivals of minorities, such as Christmas and Ramzan. On this occasion, new clothes are given as a gift. Funds were raised specifically for prayer halls, they said.

The State government is working for the development of minorities in every field and giving utmost priority to their welfare, officials said. Consequently, Telangana was ranked first in the educational development of minority girls.
