Telangana’s Agricultural Success Highlights

S Niranjan Reddy, Telangana’s Agriculture Minister, gave stunning figures highlighting the state’s agricultural success over the last decade. Notably, the cultivated land area has increased dramatically, rising from 1.31 crore acres in 2014 to a staggering 2.38 crore acres in 2022-23. This indicates an astounding 81.6% increase within this time span.

Minister Niranjan Reddy spoke to the media on the unprecedented rise in agriculture and its influence on the state’s economy. Paddy output, in particular, has increased significantly, from 68 lakh tonnes to an astonishing 3 crore tonnes.

The minister also stated that the government had successfully acquired 722.92 lakh tonnes of paddy since 2014, at a cost of Rs 1.33 lakh billion. In addition, additional crops were purchased for Rs 11,439.06 crore.

Minister Niranjan Reddy emphasized the state’s commitment to agricultural growth by highlighting irrigation facility expansion. The Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Scheme (KLIS) has permitted the irrigation of an extra 45 lakh acres of land. In addition, the Palamuru-Rangareddy Lift Irrigation Scheme would irrigate 12.30 lakh acres across six districts.

The Rythu Bandhu initiative has been extremely beneficial to farmer welfare. The government has budgeted a huge Rs 72,815 crore to this scheme’s 11 stages, which would assist countless farmers. Furthermore, under the Rythu Bima program, insurance claims of Rs 5,566 crore have been distributed to the families of 1,11,320 farmers.

Concerning agricultural loans, the minister stated that debts of Rs 16,144.10 crore were forgiven for 35.31 lakh farmers during the first round of loan waiver. The government has already allotted Rs 13,000.51 crore in the present second phase for loan waivers for 22.98 lakh farmers, reflecting the administration’s continuous commitment to improving the lives of the state’s farming community.
