Telangana’s latest initiative for women ‘Arogya Mahila’ launched by Harish Rao

Health Minister T Harish Rao launched Arogya Mahila, the State’s latest initiative for women, at the Buttirajaram primary health center here on Wednesday.

On the occasion of International Women’s Day, the program was simultaneously launched in 100 hospitals across the state.

Harish Rao said on the occasion that Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao, who has introduced a number of schemes for the welfare of women, has designed two new gifts for women, Arogya Mahila and the KCR Nutrition kit scheme.

While Arogya Mahila was launched on International Women’s Day, the nutrition kit program would be launched after Ugadi festival.

According to a survey, 40 to 50 percent of women had various types of health problems. Despite the fact that they have health issues, a majority of the women would not approach doctors due to various reasons including poverty, or because of their busy schedules at home or because of reluctance to consult male doctors in hospitals.

The State government was launching Arogya Mahila, which would provide eight types of services to women, in order to treat those women.

Every Tuesday, the designated clinics would be open only to women. Furthermore, on that day, only female staff, including doctors, ANMs, lab technicians, and others, would be assigned to those clinics.

Aside from treatment, medicines and tests would be done free of cost. If necessary, the women would be referred to the district headquarters hospital for additional treatment, such as operations.

The Minister urged women to use Arogya Mahila clinic services to solve their health problems, instructing ASHA workers and ANMs to educate women about the clinics.

BC Welfare Minister Gangula Kamalakar, Health Commissioner Sweta Mohanthi, Karimnagar Mayor Y Sunil Rao, Collector RV Karnan and others were present.
