TPCC President & MP A. Revanth Reddy Hoisting the National Flag at Gandhi Bhavan

Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) President & MP A. Revanth Reddy was speaking after hoisting the national flag at Gandhi Bhavan on the occasion of the 73rd Republic Day celebrations on Wednesday.

Revanth Reddy gave a clarion call to the activists, intellectuals, jobless youth, and other sections of the society to launch a new movement to restore democracy and achieve the real purpose of the formation of Telangana.

The TPCC President said that the Congress party achieved freedom for the country and empowered the people by ensuring social justice. “With the slogan of ‘Purna Swaraj’ in 1930, the Congress party intensified the war of independence, made several sacrifices, and achieved freedom. The Constitution, drafted by Baba Saheb Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, was implemented on 26th January 1950. Besides the Right to Life, the Constitution of India guaranteed several rights to all citizens without any discrimination. Our Constitution is so comprehensive and practical that it stands as an ideal for the entire world,” he said.

Revanth Reddy said that the Congress party enjoys the credit for establishing and strengthening the four pillars of democracy – the Legislature, Executive, Judiciary, and Media. They were strengthened time and again through various reforms. Each pillar had its own freedom and played a role in keeping the people of this country on the same platform. It was the Congress Govt that nationalized banks and introduced innumerable development and welfare schemes for the growth of all sections of the society. The Congress Governments, at the Centre in States, ensured that people enjoy their Constitutional rights and remedies and live a peaceful and secure life.

However, the TPCC President said that the governments headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the Centre and Chief Minister K. Chandrashekhar Rao in Telangana have been suppressing the people’s rights. They unleashed a reign of terror any voice of dissent against their anti-people policies. Recalling the incident of Lakhimpur Kheri, he said that the son of a Union Minister mowed down farmers by his car while they were protesting against the three black farm laws. Despite the Supreme Court monited Special Investigation Team (SIT) filing a chargesheet against Ashish Mishra, PM Modi did not sack his Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Ajay Mishra Teni from his cabinet. Instead, the BJP Govts at the Centre and in Uttar Pradesh tried to shield the accused persons.

Revanth Reddy also condemned the Modi Govt for its proposed move to amend All India Services Rules. He said that the BJP Govt was killing the spirit of cooperative federalism by trying to gain control over all IAS, IPS, and other AIS officers deputed in States. He said the move was an attempt to encroach upon the rights of the States guaranteed in the Constitution.

Revanth Reddy said that the Congress party did not come into existence just to rule the people. It was established 138 years ago to achieve freedom for the country and it has been fighting for people’s rights ever since. He ridiculed BJP’s call for a ‘Congress Mukt Bharat’. “Is it possible for anyone to distance people from the Congress party which brought freedom for the country and gave liberties to the people,” he said while adding that PM Modi wants to rule the country like a dictator by suppressing the rights of the people.

He said that it was the Congress party that granted statehood for Telangana to turn a 60-year-old dream into a reality. Telangana State is the outcome of several struggles and many sacrifices. But CM KCR is ruling Telangana like a Jagirdar (feudal lord). He completely dismantled the grievances mechanism and has been suppressing all voices of dissent. There is not even a functional Secretariat where people could visit to lodge their complaints.

Citing examples of brutality displayed by the KCR Government, Revanth Reddy said Dalits, Tribal, and BC youth in Nerella of Sircilla constituency were subjected to third-degree torture when they protested against the sand mafia-backed by ruling TRS leaders. The chilli farmers in Khammam, belonging to ST community, were implicated in a false case, arrested, chained, and sent to jail like hardcore criminals when they demanded a proper price for their produce. A Tribal woman in Bhadrachalam was brutally beaten up by tying her up with a tree when she agitated against injustice.

Revanth Reddy said it was a highly unfortunate and unemployed youth in Khammam who committed suicide as he was upset over not getting a job and a teacher in Wanaparthy ended his life as he was wrongly transferred to a different district as per GO 317. He said KCR Govt was directly responsible for both the deaths. He said TRS Govt was not issuing job notifications to fill vacancies in various departments. Similarly, it was not withdrawing controversial GO 317 which so far claimed the lives of several teachers and employees.

The TPCC President said that the countdown for the downfall of the KCR Govt has already begun. He said that the Congress party has been getting tremendous response to its membership drive. He said over 17 lakh people in Telangana have already joined the Congress family and soon the target of 30 lakh members would be achieved. He said that the overall membership of the Congress party in Telangana was expected to cross 40 lakhs.

Revanth Reddy appealed to the Congress cadre to mobilize youth to work for the people. He asked them to stay in touch with the people to understand their problems and fight for solutions. He said that the process of welfare and growth and people’s rights would be restored only when Congress returns to power in the next elections.
