TS Inter Vocational Courses to include AI, Machine Learning

Next academic year, intermediate students will have the opportunity to learn about how technology is developing.

There are six new vocational courses proposed by the Department of Intermediate Education. Three of them are in computer science and three are in electronics.

Computer science courses include Cyber-Physical Systems & Security, Cloud Computing & Big Data Analytics, and Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning.

For the academic year 2022–23, the Electronics and Video Engineering Technician, Bio-Medical Engineering Technician, and Embedded System Technician courses are scheduled under the electronics stream of intermediate vocational education. To this end, the department has submitted a proposal to the state government for approval.

A five-member group of topic specialists had previously been formed to finalize the curriculum and produce content for new vocational courses. A committee that reviewed the nomenclature of new courses, revisions, and compatibility with current industry needs and employability recommended starting the six new vocational courses.

Polytechnic students will have access to the aforementioned courses in the academic year 2021-22. To enhance the lateral mobility of intermediate students to the polytechnic stream, the Department of Intermediate Education proposed that the government create new intermediate courses and assist students who wish to pursue engineering degrees through lateral entrance options.

Buck System

In the meantime, the Department of Intermediate Education is considering implementing a buck system at the intermediate level.

Under this approach, students will be able to pick a subject from a list of options.

For example, CEC students will be able to drop Civics from their stream and choose another course from the pool, such as Computer Science. According to a source, this system will initially be limited to government junior colleges.

The buck system is now being implemented at degree institutions throughout the state, primarily in government degree colleges.
