Under NREGS, the Centre owes Telangana Rs 1100 crore

Since the start of the Palle and Pattana Pragathi programmes in Telangana, Telangana has spent nearly Rs.11,711 crore whereas the Central Government still owed Rs.1,100 crore under NREGS.

State Government has cleared payments worth Rs.514.3 crores during this financial year. Besides these, additional payments of Rs.285 crore are scheduled to be made in the coming days.

In a meeting with Panchayat Raj Minister E Dayakar Rao, Minister Rao said that NREGS dues of Rs.1,100 crore were reminded to the Central Government this month through written communication.

Dayakar Rao, who was accompanied by Health Minister T Harish Rao in the meeting, said, “Even though two months have passed in the current financial year, the Centre has not released a single rupee.”

He said several Sarpanches and elected public representatives, who had executed different works in their respective areas, had been affected by the delay in the release of funds. The Minister specifically instructed officials to write a letter to the Central Government requesting funds, over and above meeting officials in New Delhi personally.

Immediately following the release of funds, the pending bills in the State should be settled, he said.

Additionally, the Minister noted that the Prime Minister had failed to release the rightful share of funding for Rs.1013 crore during the past financial year despite the recommendations of the 15th Finance Commission.
