UP police call teen’s death “a result of drowning” after terming it a murder

Amid the public outrage over the crimes against women occurring very often in the state of UP, another case of a teen’s death has taken a new twist. After initial speculations of a murder, the demise of the teenager missing in the Bhadohi district of UP was termed as “death due to drowning” by the police officials.

The postmortem results crossed out the chance of a sexual assault with the girl. However, officials said that a team consisting of five doctors will be conducting another autopsy on August 20th as the locals suspected an acid attack due to the burns found on her body. The girl’s body was recovered “in a very bad condition” after about one and a half days of her missing.

According to the UP police’s statements of August 19th, before death The drowning body of victim seemed to have suffered burns because of the injuries found on her body, The police chief of Bhadohi, Ram Badan Singh, while speaking to the media, said that based on the appearance and condition of the body, the incident seems to be murder rather than an accident.

A panel formed with two doctors had carried out the postmortem on the evening of August 19th.

The incident took place on August 17th after the supposed 17 years old girl left her house to take their buffaloes for grazing in the village and did not return. Later, her body was found on August 19th’s afternoon in a bordering district of Bhadohi, Jaunpur.

Ram Badan Singh, the police chief said on August 19th, “The parents said their daughter had gone to graze the buffaloes and did not return. We had filed a case. The family had named some suspects and we even questioned them but we had not managed to trace the girl. We have now found her body, we are getting a post mortem done.”

Referring to her burn marks, he further said, “Prima facie, it appears that the girl has been murdered… it appears that she was burnt with some substance. The details will be clearer after postmortem.”

The increasing crime rate in Uttar Pradesh has left people enraged. Another recent incident took place when the dead body of a medical student, aged 25 years, was recovered from an area close to her college in Agra on August 19th. This was hours after the family registered a complaint about their daughter missing. The family had accused a doctor belonging to the Jalaun city of harassing the girl prior to her death. He has been taken into custody and is being interrogated.
