VVS Laxman to head the National Cricket Academy, Sourav Ganguly confirms

The Indian Cricket Board is appointing former cricketers into vital roles as VVS Laxman joins as the new head of the National Cricket Academy or NCA. The development was confirmed by the Board of Control for Cricket in India’s President Sourav Ganguly. Apart from Laxman, Rahul Dravid, former captain of the Indian cricket team is also going to begin his duty as the Head coach of the Indian team.

As per sources, the BCCI President was the one who made efforts to get Rahul on board. The former Indian cricketer has often highlighted the need for ex-players to be a part of the board to ensure the team gets stronger and the sport grows.

VVS Laxman was not just the choice of Ganguly but also of the other top officials within the BCCI, including secretary Jay Shah and senior officers who expressed their willingness in seeing him as the NCA Head. The report came from sources who also said that the board had witnessed Laxman’s work in the past few years and how he closely worked with Rahul.

Before the update was confirmed, the BCCI source had said that while both Sourav and Jay are looking forward to seeing Laxman in the role, it cannot materialize without the acceptance of the man himself “as he has a young family also. He is undoubtedly a front runner for the role and not to forget how he has been known to share a special bond with now coach Dravid. It will be the perfect combination to have those two work together towards taking Indian cricket forward. Nothing like having former cricketers coming on board to help produce the next generation of stars.”

As far as Rahul Dravid’s appointment is concerned, the Head coach had expressed his excitement and the efforts he will make to take the team’s strength a step forward. He also mentioned how the current coach Ravi Shastri guided the team and enabled them to do well.

“It is an absolute honour to be appointed as the new head coach of the Indian cricket team and I am really looking forward to this role. Under Shastri, the team has done very well, and I hope to work with the team to take this forward,” he had said, adding about his experience with the other team members of the cricket teams, “Having worked closely with most of the boys either at NCA, U19 and India A setup, I know they have the passion and desire to improve every day. There are some marquee multi-team events in the next two years, and I look forward to working with the players and the support staff to achieve our potential.”

A former batsman, Rahul Dravid, is being warmly welcomed into the team. Rohit Sharma and R Ashwin- both members of the Indian team- said that they are looking forward to working with Rahul.
