With Five Seats Bagged in Bihar Elections, Owaisi’s Party Eyes Kingmaker’s Role in Bihar

 AIMIM has won five seats in Bihar Assembly elections

The (AIMIM) All India Majlis-e-Ittehad-ul-Muslimeen, which has won five seats in Bihar Assembly elections, is eyeing the role of a kingmaker as the trends on Tuesday night shows that the state is setting out toward a cliff-hanger.

Extending out support to Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)- drove National Democratic Alliance (NDA), was virtually ruled out by him.

Owaisi, nonetheless, criticized his opponents for calling him and his party names throughout the campaign. He said in an apparent reference to remarks by some Congress leaders, “We were called B, C team and ‘vote katwa’ party. Today we are also blamed for results.”

Naming the results “historic” for the AIMIM, Owaisi expressed gratitude towards the public of Bihar for voting in favor of the party.

The AIMIM had fielded 21 candidates. He stated, “We will examine reasons for defeat in other constituencies and will try to overcome the weaknesses.”

It was a constituent of Grand Democratic Secular Front, which had projected Upendra Kushwaha as the Chief Ministerial candidate.

The Kushwaha-drove RLSP, the BSP, the Samajwadi Janata Dal Democratic and Democratic Party (Socialist) were the other constituents of the Front. It contested every one of the 243 seats.

The BSP has won one seat. Owaisi said the outcomes so far were in contrary to the expectations of the Front. He added, “But we respect the people’s verdict. In a democracy, it’s the public who are supreme.”

Slamming Congress head Adhir Ranjan Choudhary for censuring the AIMIM for dividing the votes, Owaisi said his party has every right to contest the election in any area of India.

He stated, “We will be going to West Bengal and we will additionally be contesting in Uttar Pradesh. We have every right to contest in any state as a political party. Nobody can stop us.”

He advised Congress and other ‘so-called’ secular parties to quit believing that secularism is alive because of them.

Owaisi stated his party needs to contest the elections since believes in democracy and it wants to provide a voice to the voiceless.

He recollected that the AIMIM contested six seats in Bihar five years back yet didn’t win any seat.

The AIMIM made its first appearance in October in Bihar Assembly in the previous year when it won the Kishanganj seat in the by-election.

The party had fielded Akhtarul Iman in the Lok Sabha election from Kishanganj in the previous year however he came in third.

The AIMIM has two members in the Lok Sabha, two seats in the Maharashtra Assembly, and seven seats in the Telangana Assembly.
