10 Dead and 16 Injured in Truck Accident Near Vadodara

On Wednesday morning,a mini-truck carrying 26 people crashed into another truck on the outskirts of Gujarat’s Vadodara city out of which 10 people were killed and 16 were injured.

Vadodara Police Commissioner R B Brahmbhatt said the accident occurred at Waghodia circle when the mini-truck rammed into the other vehicle from behind.

The 10 individuals who passed away belonged to the Varachha region of Surat city and they were going towards Pavagadh in the Panchmahal area, he added

The Vadodara accident victim families looked for a transport vehicle on Tuesday and on not being able to locate any reasonable transport they hired a mini truck.

They were known to have left the city at approximately 11.30 pm subsequent to hiring the truck from Sita Nagar crossroad.

During the initiation of lockdown, a large number of people left the city in goods vehicles to go back to their native places in Saurashtra, north Gujarat, and the neighboring states Rajasthan,  Madhya Pradesh, and Maharashtra. Because of insufficient transportation facility in current times and rush during the festive season, the victim families were known to have hired the mini truck.

The victim families come from the villages of Amreli, Gir Somnath, and Bhavnagar locale of Saurashtra and got settled in the city for the past couple of years for employment.

Batuk Jinjala, who performs work on sarees, his younger sibling Haresh, a diamond artisan, their cousin Suresh, a diamond artisan, all residents of Asha Nagar in Punagam territory arranged a trip to Pavagadh with family members of relatives living in neighboring areas. Aside from the Jinjala family, individuals of three other families have participated in the trip.

Jinjala family is local of Govindadi village in Rajula taluka of Amreli area, however, settled in the city for the last many years. Relatives of Haresh’s two uncles have likewise joined. These two families are local of Dhokadwa village of Gir Somnath and Khakhbai town of Rajula. Another family was Batuk’s business partner Dinesh that initially comes from Mota Jadra village of Mahuva in Bhavnagar.

Suresh Suhagiya, a member of Shikshan Samiti of Surat Municipal Corporation and Congress leader, said, “In absence of proper transport the families suffered the accident. Also, there was no police or RTO checking to prevent goods vehicle from transporting human.”

PM Narendra Modi communicated his sympathies by tweeting: “Saddened by the accident in Vadodara. My thoughts are with those who lost their loved ones. Praying that the injured recover soon.” He added, “The administration is providing all possible assistance at the site of the accident.”

 

Union Home Minister Amit Shah expressed his condolences by tweeting: “Deeply anguished to learn about the loss of lives in a tragic road accident in Vadodara, Gujarat.” He added, “Have spoken to the local administration they are providing all possible assistance. Condolences to the bereaved families. May injured recover at the earliest”

 

 

President of India Ram Nath Kovind also expressed his sympathies by tweeting: “Distressed to learn about the loss of lives in a tragic road accident in Vadodara, Gujarat. In this hour of grief, my thoughts and prayers are with the bereaved families. I wish speedy recovery of the injured.”
