The court further said that why shouldn’t they take action against the state poll panel and their officials. Further asking that the ones who are responsible for violating the Covid guidelines should also be prosecuted.

The high court went ahead with the case after hearing a PIL on Covid care. The bench was led by Justice Siddhartha Varma and Justice Ajit Kumar. They had directed the State Election Commission to immediately take measures for the remaining phases of Panchayat Elections to ensure that Covid 19 safety protocols are followed. If not, legal action would be taken against the officials who will be involved in the election process.

During the passing of the directives, the court said that in the light of the recent phases of Panchayat Election, the Covid 19 guidelines were violated on multiple occasions. Following which, it appears that neither the police nor the State Election Commission did anything to save people who were working during the election duty. This further led to many people getting infected with the pandemic virus.

Further talking about the deaths because of oxygen shortage, the court said that it’s been seven decades since India had attained freedom and a lot of heavy industries are in place. Even after that, they are unable to provide medical oxygen to the needy. “It is a matter of shame,” said Allahabad Court.
