CBCID investigation into encroachment on Waqf properties: Mahmood Ali

The home minister of Telangana, Mahmood Ali, has announced that the CBCID will conduct an investigation into the illegal encroachment of Waqf properties. Across the state, 10 former unified districts were set up as committees.

The state government will take strict action against the illegal encroachers of the Waqf properties, he said.

The minister reviewed the status of the investigation in his office at a high-level meeting. CBCID Director-General Govind Singh and Principal Secretary of the home department Ravi Gupta were present in the meeting.

Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao’s seriousness in protecting the Waqf properties was also stated by the minister.

As per the concerned officials, CBCID teams have been set up in each of the ten former unified districts of Telangana and investigations have begun. State Waqf board officials have been ordered to provide details of the Waqf properties that are being occupied illegally. According to them, an investigation would be initiated as soon as the details were sent by the Waqf board.

The minister has asked CBCID staff to conduct the investigation thoroughly. “If necessary, the general public will be asked to provide information about Waqf properties that are being illegally occupied. The state government is committed to defending the state’s Waqf properties,” the minister stated.

Mahmood Ali had also directed the district collector of Medchal Malkajgiri to reconstruct the historic Shamirpet mosque and directed police to take strong action against those involved in the demolition.

The minister learned about the demolition event from local TRS leaders in Shamirpet. He expressed sympathies for the demolition of the old Kutub Shahi mosque. The district collector had promised to rebuild the Mosque.

The home minister had spoken on the phone with Shahnawaz Qasim, the chief executive officer of the Waqf board. Qasim notified the home minister that a police report had been filed against those involved in the demolition of the mosque and the selling of Auqaf land. The Waqf Board provided Rs.5 lakhs for the mosque’s reconstruction.
